Maintenance, Cleaning and Care for All District Buildings
The Buildings & Grounds Department is located in the District Office at 201 Orchard Street South. Buildings & Grounds is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning and care of all district buildings. The department is also responsible for health and safety, indoor air quality and capital improvement projects. Since joining Northfield Public Schools in 2017, Roger Helgeson has become a valued member of the district and now serves as head custodian at Northfield High School. His cheerful spirit, readiness to help others, and steadfast commitment to the health and safety of students and staff have earned him this well-deserved recognition. True to his humble nature, Roger accepted the award on behalf of the entire Buildings and Grounds Department, acknowledging the dedication of his colleagues across the district. With a story to share and a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease, Roger is appreciated by all who have the pleasure of knowing and working with him.
The mission of Northfield Public School Districts Safety Committee is to develop, promote and maintain a safe and healthy environment throughout, to identify issues and find solutions of safety concerns and promote a safe and secure environment for all staff, students and community.
The committee comprises the head custodian of each building, the Director of Building & Grounds, and at least five other members, ideally representing each building and its respective collective bargaining unit. Members will serve two-year terms. Members include:
1. Employees with health and safety concerns, please submit a request via IncidentIQ. Non Employees with health and safety concerns, please contact a Health and Safety Committee member.
2. All concerns should be made in writing to any member of the Safety Committee. The Safety Committee member will seek to have the concern addressed at the building level or refer the concern to be reviewed by the Safety Committee if it cannot be resolved at the building level.
3. The chairperson of the Safety Committee and the Director of Buildings & Grounds shall schedule meetings of the committee when concerns are referred.
4. The committee will review and make recommendations regarding the concern, or refer it to the appropriate department in a timely manner.
