Non-Traditional Education Environment for Northfield Students
The Area Learning Center (ALC) provides a safe and inviting non-traditional education environment for qualifying students under the age of 21. Located on the 2nd floor of the Northfield School District Office and Area Learning Center building, the ALC offers a day program, independent study, teen parenting classes and dual enrollment options. Students are required to use the main entrance as the building is a secured location.
Goals of the ALC program start with creating a welcoming school environment for students. The environment is safe with clear expectations, a respectful and positive atmosphere, and support to assist students in reaching academic goals. Program staff model the qualities and characteristics that we hope to instill in our students. The ALC strives to continuously improve its educational model through annual Site Improvement Plans.
Two Updates for the Northfield ALC
The first update is that we will be having parent conferences on Oct 12 and Oct 13 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. each day. The ALC staff will be calling or texting families to schedule times, but if you would like to call and schedule a time that is also welcomed.
The second update is that we will be slightly changing the cohort calendar for short weeks to balance out the days. The Maroon cohort will be in person Monday, October 12 and the Gold cohort will be in person Tuesday, October 13 for the short week due to MEA. The Maroon cohort will be in person Monday, November 23 and the Gold cohort will be in person Tuesday, November 24 due to the short week of Thanksgiving. The last change will be the Maroon cohort will be in person Monday, December 21 and the Gold cohort will be in person Tuesday, December 22 due to the short week of winter break. We are able to clean the building Monday evening of these weeks so we can attempt to keep the same sanitizing measures as we do on Wednesdays of each week.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we try to balance the days we see students in person and please call the ALC at 507-645-1201 if you have any questions.
