Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education offers free classes for adults who need to brush up on basic skills, complete their GED, prepare for college, or improve their English.

Class Information

Day and evening classes are offered at the Northfield Community Resource Center, 1651 Jefferson Pkwy, and Greenvale Park Elementary School, 700 Lincoln Pkwy.

Adults 17 and older who are not enrolled in school may attend. All classes taught in English. Please contact Clarice Grenier Grabau for more information at cgrabau@northfieldschools.org.

Registration and Orientation

English language students may register the first week of each month. Initial paperwork and assessment will take approximately 1 ½ – 2 hours. Basic education and GED students may register anytime.

Learn English

In this class all levels of English language learners can improve basic vocabulary, reading, writing and conversation skills.

Community Services_Adult Basic EducationInglés como segundo idioma – Clases son para todos niveles de inglés. Las clases incluyen vocabulario, lectura, escritura y conversaciones en inglés.

  • 9:15 – 11:30 a.m. M & W, Greenvale Park
  • 6 – 8:30 p.m. M & W, NCRC

Conversation Class takes place on Thur evenings at Greenvale Park.

Family School

Family School is for English language learners with children ages 0-5. Parents and children learn together in this unique class focusing on literacy, parenting, life and job skills.

Escuela Familiar – Escuela Familiar es un programa especial para quienes inglés no es su lengua materna y que tengan hijos de recién nacidos a 5 años de edad. Mejore sus habilidades del inglés y técnicas de alfabetización temprana para su hijo en esta clase, que concentra en aumentar las habilidades en la crianza de los hijos, la vida cotidiana y en el empleo. Lleve a sus hijos de 5 años y menores a la clase y aprendan juntos. Puede proveerse transporte. No se requiere inscripción previa.

Adult Secondary Education and GED

Improve your reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Prepare for the GED, study for the Accuplacer or TEAS, or improve your digital literacy skills.

  • 6 – 8:30 p.m. M, NCRC
  • 9 – 11:30 a.m. T, NCRC

Citizenship

Students who are currently enrolled in English or ABE may attend classes to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship Test. This class is by appointment only.

Official GED Testing

GED testing takes place at official testing centers and is scheduled through the GED Testing Service.
