Supplemental Instruction for At-risk Students
Title IA of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides funding to school districts to provide supplemental instruction to students who are at risk for not reaching grade-level standards in reading and mathematics. Funding is targeted exclusively to those students who reside within the attendance boundaries of school buildings with poverty rates greater than the district as a whole, based on the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. A portion of the district’s Title I funding flows to non-public schools located within the geographic boundaries of the district, regardless of their student poverty rate.
