Project ABLE (Achieving a Better Life through Education) provides social, recreational and educational programming to adults with differential cognitive, physical and social abilities. The program is operated as a consortium between Northfield Public Schools and Faribault Public Schools.

Program goals

Broadly speaking, Project ABLE aims to:

  • Provide specialized educational, social and recreational programming to meet the needs of the adult disabled population in Rice County
  • Facilitate opportunities for inclusion of adult disabled participants in programs
  • Increase public awareness of the roles and contributions of the disabled within the community

Key Initiatives

To fulfill these objectives, we’ve outlined a number of priority initiatives, including:

  • Updating programs to reflect changes in demographics
  • Modifying classes and activities to continuously improve accessibility
  • Seeking financial support and providing trained staff and volunteers to facilitate the programs
  • Assisting with educating the community to be disability aware
  • Providing inclusion assistance and other individualized services for people with disabilities and their families
