Project ABLE (Achieving a Better Life through Education) provides social, recreational and educational programming to adults with differential cognitive, physical and social abilities. The program is operated as a consortium between Northfield Public Schools and Faribault Public Schools.
Program goals
Broadly speaking, Project ABLE aims to:
- Provide specialized educational, social and recreational programming to meet the needs of adults with disabilites in Rice County
- Facilitate opportunities for inclusion of adult with disabilities in programs
- Increase public awareness of the roles and contributions of adults with disabilities within the community
Key Initiatives
To fulfill these objectives, we’ve outlined a number of priority initiatives, including:
- Updating programs to reflect changes in demographics
- Modifying classes and activities to continuously improve accessibility
- Seeking financial support and providing trained staff and volunteers to facilitate the programs
- Assisting with educating the community to be disability aware
- Providing inclusion assistance and other individualized services for people with disabilities and their families
