Dear Northfield School District Families:

We have some terrible news to share with you today. Berlyn Berghuis, a tenth grader at Northfield High School, died in a car accident on Jan. 19. Another high school student was seriously injured in the accident and was airlifted from the scene. This student is currently in stable condition in the ICU. We are not sharing that student’s name at this time.

The death of a student is a tragedy that will impact each of us in different ways. Our team is ready to support students during this difficult time.

While this incident is directly related to the high school, we know that news of a student death can impact students at other schools in the district.
