Dear Northfield School District Families:

I am thrilled to announce an extraordinary partnership with Carleton College.

  • Carleton has pledged $2 million toward the facility improvements included in the Reimagine Northfield High School proposal.
  • If the first bond referendum question passes on Nov. 5, 2024, this means the district would sell $2 million less in bonds than proposed.
  • This generous pledge from Carleton marks a unique milestone, being the first of its kind from a Minnesota private college towards a public school district bond referendum project.

We will hold a celebratory announcement event on Friday, Aug. 30, at 10 am in the Northfield High School upper cafeteria. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

I will serve as the emcee. Speakers include Carleton President Alison Byerly, NHS Principal Shane Baier, NHS teachers Bubba Sullivan and Jody Saxton-West, NHS Student Council President Leena Brown, Carleton Professor Matt Whited, and Northfield School District Board Chair Claudia Gonzalez-George. Northfield Live will also broadcast the event.

This pledge is a historic investment in public schools by a Minnesota private college and exemplifies the district’s strategic commitment to partnerships. For one of the nation’s most prestigious colleges to invest in our school district to help it thrive shows its deep commitment to our community. I’m humbled and so grateful on behalf of the school board, students, staff, families, and taxpayers of the Northfield School District. This pledge will help us accelerate the pursuit of our vision to prepare every student for lifelong success while demonstrating our commitment to stewardship.

You can learn more about the referendum and view the tour/event schedule at the Reimagine Northfield High School bond referendum website.

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Matt
