Dear Northfield School District Families:

I want you to know that we are aware that several Minnesota school districts were impacted by hoax phone calls today reporting an active shooter at their schools. Based on widely available media reports, the calls have been confirmed by law enforcement to be hoaxes and appear to be part of a nationwide issue this week.

To be clear, the Northfield School District has not received any threats.

I want to assure you student safety is paramount. We have collaborated with the Northfield Police Department on this topic, as we regularly do on many issues related to school safety. I also want to reshare the resources I have previously sent about our work to prioritize school safety.

These hoaxes have significant adverse impacts on the schools that receive them and are serious crimes. People who make these false reports will face prosecution.

Again, even though our district has not been impacted by these hoaxes to this point, we wanted you to know we are aware that other districts faced these problems today. As always, please contact me directly with any feedback about the district.
