Dear Northfield School District Families,
I write to you today to acknowledge yesterday’s mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, with deep sadness and anger over this senseless murder of children. It is impossible to make sense of such a senseless act, but we try to do so as human beings. Our hearts are with the families in Uvalde as they grieve following this horrific event.
An event like this has implications far beyond where it took place and impacts all of us in different ways. I have linked two resources from the National Association of School Psychologists to help you discuss this with your students as appropriate.
Our school counselors and social workers can help if your student needs additional assistance. Please reach out to your school office and they can give you the direction you need. As school district staff, we will do our best to support you and your students.
Student safety is our top priority. We will continue to take steps to keep our schools as safe as practicable. Please don’t hesitate to contact your school principal or me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Matt
