At their August 13, 2018, regular meeting, the Northfield School District Board of Education approved a special election bond referendum on November 6, 2018, for the purposes of new construction of an elementary school and other elementary facilities improvements.
The $40.975 million bond would fund:
- The construction of a new elementary school on the Greenvale Park Elementary site and repurposing the current Greenvale Park Elementary into a district-wide early childhood center and stafford nursery. This would consolidate Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), pre-school, and the District’s licensed daycare facility into one location from their two current locations (Northfield Community Resource Center and Longfellow School.)
- Music and cafeteria additions at Sibley Elementary. These additions would allow for the expansion of the current media center and add classroom space.
- Secure entrance and new main office at Bridgewater Elementary. The current main office would be repurposed into additional classroom space.
- The current District Office would move from Northfield High School to the space vacated by early learning programs at Longfellow School. The Area Learning Center would remain on the second floor of Longfellow School. The current District Offices would be repurposed for additional classroom space for Northfield High School.
The preliminary tax impact table is available here. The District’s informational campaign will coincide with the beginning of the school year in September.
