Northfield School District voters approved the district’s operating levy, but did not approve a bond referendum question on Tuesday, November 7th, 2017. The operating levy question passed 4,085-3,831 and the bond referendum question failed 3,467-4,436. Complete election results are available on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
The approved operating levy will revoke the current voter-approved levy and replace it with an operating levy increased by $470.15 per student, which will bring the local operating levy amount to $1,967.32 per student for a 10-year term with an inflationary escalator included. This local funding will help solidify the district’s financial position to maintain student programming.
The bond referendum would have addressed several District facilities issues — including a new Northfield High School, a new elementary school on the Greenvale Park campus and repurposing the current Greenvale Park as a district-wide early childhood center, and minor additions and renovations at Sibley and Bridgewater.
The District sincerely thanks the community for their support of an increased operating levy that will help maintain student programming.
