The fourth creation of the Northfield Young Sculptors Project, “Rain on Mars,” will be unveiled at a public celebration on Thursday, June 2, next to the newly reopened Northfield Public Library.

Twelve Northfield High School students worked on the sculpture in collaboration with artists Leah Willemin, Teresa Lenzen and Thomas Dunning.

The sculpture will be displayed near the corner of Third and Division Streets for two years, before being moved to Northfield High School’s courtyard sculpture garden.

The project is part of a biennial tradition initiated by the Northfield Arts and Culture Commission. The goal is to link artistic, educational and cultural enrichment, by empowering high school students to create public sculpture and to give Northfield residents and visitors a visual treat.

The year-long project received funding from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC).
