Learn first aid to help a young person experiencing a mental health challenge or mental disorder. Members of the public can register for one of two free classes in February on how to help youth in a mental health crisis, including:
- Risk factors, warning signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders
- Protective factors that can impact a young person’s resiliency
- Five-step action plan for helping a young person with symptoms

The Rice County Mental Health Collective, Northfield Public Schools and the Northfield Hospital & Clinics partnered to offer the opportunity after training was completed with area school staff, parents, volunteers, police officers and community leaders earlier this year. Support for the sessions was provided by a grant of the U.S. Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration.
All sessions will be located at the Northfield Hospital.
