Northfield Middle School student Hannah Pahs, grade 8, earned a trophy and a spot in the final round of the Southeast Minnesota Spelling Bee, during regional competitions Feb. 11.

The grand champion of the regional contest will earn a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Pahs, along with eighth graders Joe Pesta and Elijah Leer, represented the district and competed with 78 students from 38 southeast Minnesota districts. The top twelve regional spellers will compete at the Southeast Service Cooperative on Feb. 25.
