Now there’s an easy way to get books into the hands of young people. Bring your gently used children’s books to any of the three district elementary schools or the Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC), next to the Clothes Closet, and leave them in specially marked boxes.
The Rotary Club of Northfield and the Early Childhood Initiative Coalition (ECIC) have partnered to collect and distribute donated books for families to conveniently pick up and read or take home. Each box has the rotary club and ECIC logo, as well as instructions for donating. Volunteers will sort, label and place the books on bookshelves throughout the community.
The literacy initiative is distributing at five locations, including laundromats, clinics, the WIC office and apartment complex community rooms. With continued support from the community, the number of locations will be increased.
Early Childhood Coordinator Sara Line said the goal is to make it easy to grab a book when children are waiting and need an activity.
“Our mission is not to duplicate any of the wonderful literacy programs we have in place, but to add to the support we are able to give families in our community,” Line said.
