Montessori Children’s House and Northfield Public Schools are cosponsoring two free events on Nov. 13, intended for parents and educators who teach pre-kindergarten through second grade.

From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Northfield High School Auditorium — Intervention Games and Activities for Beginning and Struggling Readers

Join early reading specialist Randall Klein for a literacy presentation to parents and community educators about beginning reading skills, phonemic awareness, and games and activities that promote literacy in the home.

No registration is necessary.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Montessori Children’s House — Beginning to Read is Child’s Play: Developmentally Appropriate Reading Instruction for Beginning and Struggling Readers

Early reading specialist Randall Klein will demonstrate intervention games and activities that give beginning and struggling readers a concrete understanding of the alphabetic principle and launch them into strong alphabet knowledge, confident decoding and proficient word identification. Special emphasis will be given to students’ use of phonemic awareness in letter recognition, word building, decoding and writing activities. Klein will also discuss the identification and remediation of dyslexic tendencies.

This session is geared toward educators. Please RSVP to mchnorthfield@charter.net or call 507.645.2445.
